First CAE Member’s Technovation Center sets up in Hong Kong - China State Construction International establishes platform to foster technological exchanges between Hong Kong and Shenzhen and to support development in the Greater Bay Area

(Hong Kong, March 17, 2023) China State Construction International Holdings Limited (hereafter referred to as “CSCI” or the “Group”, Stock Code: 03311) today hosted an unveiling ceremony for the “CAE Member’s Technovation Center of CSCI”. The unveiling ceremony was officiated by Mr Chan Kwok-ki, Acting Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), Mr Yin Zonghua , Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR and Mr Li Rusheng, Chief Engineer at the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of the People's Republic of China, along with Prof Chen Xiangsheng, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Mr Zheng Xuexuan, Chairman of China State Construction Engineering Corporation, Mr Yan Jianguo, Chairman and President of China Overseas Holdings Limited and Mr Zhang Haipeng, Chairman and Executive Director of China State Construction International Holdings Limited, to witness the opening of the first CAE Member’s Technovation Center in Hong Kong. 

Operated as a “Research and Development Office” model, CSCI will leverage the expertise of the Technovation Center to promote communication and collaborations between academia and industry. It will bring to Hong Kong cutting-edge technologies and research results incubated by national academies, including green and low-carbon development and smart constructions, to achieve technologies and innovations breakthroughs in the construction industry. Through pioneering technological transformations in the construction industry, the Center aims to contribute to the development of the Greater Bay Area (GBA), the Shenzhen-Hong Kong integration, and the empowerment of Hong Kong through technology.

Mr Chan Kwok-ki, the Acting Chief Executive of the HKSAR, said, “The launching of the CAE Member’s Technovation Center of CSCI, the first Chinese Academy of Engineering Member’s Technovation Center in Hong Kong, represents a groundbreaking and iconic meaning to promote the integration of construction technologies between Hong Kong and the Mainland. The HKSAR Government is fully committed to developing Hong Kong into an international innovation and technology hub set out in the National 14th Five-Year Plan. The establishment of the Technovation Center is in line with the future development direction of Hong Kong in the aspects of innovation and technology. I look forward to future collaborations of the HKSAR Government and respective industries with the Technovation Center to bring the construction technologies of Hong Kong and the Mainland to the next level.”

Mr Zheng Xuexuan, Chairman of China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) said, “The CAE Member’s Technovation Center of CSCI has an important mission to support the CSCEC’s endeavor in fostering the prosperity of Hong Kong. CSCEC will expedite the establishment of the Center by devising necessary resources, optimizing operation mechanisms, strengthening management services and evaluation systems, with a view to making the Center a technological innovation hub for the Group. The Center aims to gain a firm foothold in serving the development of the Greater Bay Area and leverage on the unique advantages of Hong Kong to spearhead in core aspects including infrastructure technologies, smart constructions and industrialisation of the sector, contributing to the development of Hong Kong into an international innovation technology hub.

Li Rusheng, Chief Engineer at the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of the People’s Republic of China said, “The opening of CAE Member’s Technovation Center of CSCI represents an important connection between the construction sectors in Mainland China and Hong Kong. It further deepens the collaborations between both parties to contribute to Hong Kong’s long-term stability.”

Jiang Jianduan, General Manager of Technology & Design Management Department of China State Construction Engineering Corporation said, “China State Construction has been paying utmost attention to driving innovations, accelerating technological advancements and transcending the status of innovations within the organisation. The establishment of the CAE Member’s Technovation Center of CSCI will contribute to the empowerment of Hong Kong through technology and foster the development of innovations in the industry. We look forward to leveraging the Center to bring together top-notch technovation talents and offer technical solutions to key issues in low carbon development and smart development, hence supporting the construction sector of Hong Kong and contributing to the technological collaborations within the Greater Bay Area.” 

Prof Chen Xiangsheng, an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, said, “It is my honor to witness the establishment of the CAE Member’s Technovation Center of CSCI, I look forward to future exchanges and collaborations of various stakeholders in Hong Kong to bring in the latest and greatest innovations and technical solutions from overseas and the Mainland to the city, to contribute to a sustainable and prosperous future for Hong Kong.”

Prof Chen Xiangsheng is an organising committee member of the International Symposium on Ground Freezing, an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and an expert in the tunnel, underground, and special geotechnical construction works. His research focuses on intelligent geotechnical construction works, smart underground constructions, urban resilience, underground sustainable structure and smart city rail transit. Launching the CAE Member’s Technovation Center of CSCI not only promotes in-depth business, academic and research integration of the construction sector in Hong Kong and the Academician to encourage the transformation of technological innovations but also bolsters talent exchanges within the GBA. Going forward, Prof. Chen will actively participate in future communication with Hong Kong’s academia and construction sectors to promote industrialisation, innovative development, and digital transformation of Hong Kong’s construction industry.

Prof Xiangsheng Chen, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering said, “It is my pleasure to work with CSCI to set up the first Chinese Academy of Engineering Academician Workstation in Hong Kong to contribute to the empowerment of Hong Kong through technology and the development of the Greater Bay Area.”

Professor Jin-Guang Teng President of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) said, “Prof Xiangsheng Chen is an expert in tunnel, underground and special geotechnical construction works, and a Member of International Advisory Committee of PolyU’s Research Institute for Land and Space (RILS). I believe the establishment of the Workstation will be an important platform for technological exchanges and will contribute to the technological development of the construction sector in the Great Bay Area.
